Choosing the right AC charger

The right AC charger comes down to three things: the power your car accepts, the electrical supply at the site, and how long the car stays parked. For homes, 7.4 kW or 11 kW is usually enough; 22 kW only makes sense with a three-phase supply.

7.4, 11 or 22 kW?

A 7.4 kW single-phase charger adds roughly 40 – 50 km of range per hour — more than enough for a car that charges overnight. With a three-phase supply, 11 kW or 22 kW cuts that time in half or better.

One caveat: many cars accept a maximum of 11 kW on AC. In that case a 22 kW charger will not charge the car any faster — it only helps if two cars share the charger or a more capable car is coming.

Socket or tethered cable?

Type 2 socket chargers are the flexible option: every driver brings their own cable and the unit stays clean and protected. A tethered cable is more convenient for daily home use, because the cable never lives in your boot.

For shared parking or multi-user sites, choose a socket; for a private garage, a tethered cable.

Why Kosovo has an advantage

In many EU countries homes only have a single-phase supply, so faster AC charging needs extra work. In Kosovo, most residential buildings come with a three-phase connection, so an 11 kW or 22 kW charger can be installed without rewiring.

That is exactly why we rarely recommend going below 11 kW when the supply allows it — charging time drops sharply at no extra infrastructure cost.
